Babo Botanicals: Babo Love Giftset, $9

For use while detangling, refreshing bed head, or simply restyling mid-day, the Babo Botanicals Detangler Spray is an instant cure-all for your hair! And just between you and me, this is mommy's favorite to spritz on mid-day to refresh my locks as well!

Does your child wake up with bed head? "We've found that our little ones have major bed head post-naptime when the hair on the back of their heads gets tangled and frizzy. It seems to be a constant battle trying to get the hair to look normal again after naptime without water, which is virtually all the time with any newborn. And so at my weakest points, I resort to simply putting a hat on his head and heading out the door."

This is when Babo Botanicals' wonderful natural products come into play...no longer are you forced to choose between fighting the bed head or pushing it under the hat!

The Berry Primrose detangling spray is delightful, the all natural scent is very fruity and kids like it just as much as mommies do! It detangles even the finest of hair and helps perk of those baby curls we all love so much. This wonderful set is the perfect gift to encourage your little one's independence (the detangler helps them comb/style their own hair and the soap is perfectly sized to fit into a toddler's palm, allowing them to wash themselves in the shower or bath).

EWG RATING: SAFE/GREEN (1) Ingredients: Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf*, Purified Water (Agua), Polyquaternium 80 (Sugar), Organic Calendula Officinalis Extract*, Organic Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Extract*, Wild Crafted Nasturtium Officinale (Watercress) Extract*, Organic Pueraria Lobata (Kudzu) Root Extract*, Glycerine (Vegetable), Glucono Delta Lactone (Sugar), Polyquaternium 10 (Vegetable Fiber), Organic Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis) Oil, Potassium Sorbate (Food Grade Preservative), Natural Berry Essential Oil Blend

Zomsters: Apparel with Earthy Personality

Zomsters is a US-based, mommy-owned company that specializes in unique clothing and art for children! Each item is created utilizing earth-friendly materials and processes including organic cottons, azo-free dyes, and recycled/reusable materials.

"Each Zomsters design has a unique touch of individuality, just like the little Zomsters wearing them! Not only do [the] designs make you smile, Zomsters is also designed to help create awareness...by making small changes in our lives we can make big differences in helping our planet." We certainly admire their mission of creating awareness through responsible consumer products! You can read more about their eco-friendly efforts as a company by clicking here.

Before we dive into the actual product review, we want to share a reminder on our strict testing standards! Since so many times, reviews are not down over time proper testing in real life conditions (i.e. toddlers with food, playing in the mud, and washing their favorite tee for the 10th time today), many reviews on the web lead to severely disappointed consumers. Why? Because the products don't hold up as well on the 80th wash as they did on the first 2! Here at ecoSAFE, we strive to give you the more accurate review of eco-friendly products so that you will have reasonable expectations as to a product's performance in your home. Although doing it this way is incredibly time-intensive (and companies aren't also so keen on waiting months to have their review published), we feel this is the only way to honestly and wholeheartedly stamp our seal of approval on it. Now, on with the show!

The Zomsters tee is a very cute thing indeed! It is sure to make your lil' monster the cutest on your street! With bright, vivid colors and unique imagery, each tee is lovingly crafted with charm in mind. After many, many washes (to the tune of 2 months worth), the tee is slightly faded but still retains it's appeal. The print screened design did not peel or otherwise deteriorate, even with ample dryer time. We did notice that the shirts do tend to run small in comparison with other brands and would recommend, especially since they are cotton, that you buy up one size for immediate wear!

Case in point, these little shirts have lots of personality in a small punch with oodles of eco-friendliness dripping out the seams!!! Check them out!!!

Green Sprouts Portable Lunchware

Whether you're looking to pack a lunch for your child or yourself, Green Sprouts offers safe products at reasonable prices on lunch bags, snack bags, and lunchware! Available in a variety of sizes, their preppy argyle print collection is hip and versatile.

Better yet, they are currently holding a back-to-school sale on these fantastic favorites: Lunch bags are currently on sale for $13.99, snack bags are $11.99, and their fabulous stainless steel jar is only $15.99!

Why do we love Green Sprouts? They produce BPA-free, PVC-free, easy-to-clean products that lessen the chemical load on both your body and the planet as well as reduce waste. What's not to love?!

What sets them apart from all the others? Besides their dedication to healthier products, Green Sprouts offers convenience that others don't. Another great feature of their bags are optional compartments - the lunch bag has a flexible yet firm and repositionable divider that allows you to custom fit the bag to your lunch and secure your items. The various sizes acknowledge that not everyone fits into the "one size fits all" category...which is just as realistic as these products are practical!

Stokke® Xplory® Stroller

"Designed not only for you and your child, but for your children’s children, and generations to come." Keep your baby close to you, safe and secure, in the Stokke® Xplory® stroller!

Features
Minimalist design with everything you need and nothing you won't use. First and foremost, we'd like you to get down on your hands and knees and look around. Go ahead - what do you see? It's no wonder many children cannot stand being in strollers, there are not a lot of exciting things happening at ground level. Stokke® realized this very important concept - children need more than transportation, they need interaction! The adjustable positioning of this seat allows children to explore the world through a different point of view, encouraging curiosity and learning while providing entertainment. The higher seat height saves your back from unnecessary bending to reach the baby. The lightweight seat also features ample padding for superior comfort and is incredibly simple to flip direction within a few seconds time. The canopy provides exceptional sun protection (SPF 50); one section can be unzipped to reveal netting for ventilation. There is also a pop-out visor extension for protection or privacy. Single lever brake system that involves pressing down for both lock and release (no more pressing upwards with your toes to unlock).

Quality
The Xplory® utilizes the finest in available materials to create a long-lasting, well-built stroller for your family's needs. From the lightweight aluminum frame to the automobile-grade polymers, all materials used in the design are well conceived and implemented. The front tires appear to be a rubber coated foam, while the back tires are rubber. While the high-quality fabric is said to meet all Oeko-Tex Standard 100 standards, official certification has not been pursued for this particular item as of yet. (The Stokke® Sleepi™ is the only Oeko-Tex approved product currently manufactured by this company.)

Ease of Use
Very comfortable to push on smooth surfaces, such as sidewalks. Offroading through park grass proves to be bumpy, though not altogether difficult. To navigate curbs, you must step down backwards with the stroller to ensure the base does not scrape. The adjustable handle height and tilt allows for siblings and parents of varying heights (approx. 42 - 78") to easily and comfortably push the Xplory®. Additionally, the design adjusts to your stride by adjusting height at an angle, providing more stride space between your legs and stroller as the handlebar is adjusted higher; effectively eliminating wheel-kicking incidents!

Environmental Impact
Stokke's mission: To create high quality products, ensure the safety of your child, and protect and preserve your child's environment.

Ongoing effort and commitment: "Throughout the company’s history, we have made every effort and endeavour to use environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials. We also continuously develop and explore new energy saving production techniques, fuel efficient shipping, and distribution methods."

Reduced waste through long-lasting products: "Perhaps the least discussed issue in relating to a product environmental effect is longevity. We create products that are designed to last a lifetime. High production standards, durable and robust materials, flexibility and adjustment options, together with timeless designs, ensure longevity to all our products."

Reduced pollution: "We transport all our products through modern and efficient logistics channels. Based upon warehouse hubs and the principle of moving large stock volumes at a time, we actively reduce transportation rates and frequency, thereby reducing emissions."

Responsible manufacturing: "We actively supervise, every aspect of raw material development, production, and distribution for all our products. Every supplier, business partner, and member of our value chain co‐sign a code of conduct agreement outlining our joint responsibilities, to ensure proper working conditions, compensations, and production methods. As a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative Norway, Stokke is an advocate of ethical trade practices."

Maintenence
All Xplory® fabrics (polyester) are fully removable and machine washable. The rear rubber tires may require replacement after several years of use. 3 year warranty provided.

Storage
While it can be partially folded to reduce the overall required storage space, it does not stand alone when folded. The few latches make it simple to compact this stroller quickly, however the seat must be forward facing or removed for storage. While lifting and opening the stroller can be managed one-handed while holding an infant, it requires both hands to store away. We recommend the Xplory® for those who wish to leave their stroller ready to go on a moment's notice (and who have the space to do so in their home).

As your family expands, consider the optional toddler rider board ($119.99 US) which attaches to the rear of the stroller to keep your toddler (up to 44 lbs) nearby. We highly recommended the parent cup holder ($24.99 US) which attaches front and center to the handlebar (we love coordinating Lifefactory® bottles).

Recommended for: Trendy fashionista mamas who love the sleek, stylish design; Caretakers of varying heights; Suburban sidewalk or city street strolling

Orbit Baby G2® Stroller

As the only stroller with Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification, the Orbit Baby G2® is certainly one of the healthiest baby products on the market. Uniquely designed to allow your child to sit in any direction, the G2 encourages your child to participate in their surrounding environment while remaining safely seated in their stroller.

Features
The G2® has one of the tallest built-in canopies we have seen on a stroller and with this, it provides exceptional sun protection - in fact, you can almost completely enclose the baby with simultaneous use of the canopy and pop-out paparazzi shade. Increased air flow through the seat is achieved with an innovative zippered flap with magnets on the back. One of the most unique features offered on this stroller is a 360 degree swivel seat with the ability to face the baby in any direction during strolling, including the side.

Quality
The Orbit Baby G2® is the only stroller to meeting strict Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification requirements, even for the polyurethane foam and batting. We like that a portion of the aluminum used in manufacture of the stroller contains recycled content. Other parts are made of virgin plastics, but they are marked with polypropylene or polycarbonate symbols for easy recycling at local centers. The company is also pursuing recycled content fabrics for use in future products and does not currently use flame retardants on their strollers. Overall, the stroller is made of high quality and durable materials. And if you happen to be someone who is into the trendiest product to have, this stroller has quite a celebrity following!

Ease of Use
It is very quick and simple to adjust the recline angle and direction with your baby in the seat. The excellent shock absorption system delivers a smooth ride: click here to read more about it! The wheels are a rubber-coated foam material, meaning you won't have to worry about popping your tires {which did happen with other strollers in testing}. We did note a few drawbacks, mainly involving the canopy. There is a slightly obstructed view due to canopy placement being lower on the seat, however this provides exceptional sun protection so it is a trade off. Due to this, we recommend this stroller for younger children who like to look at parent more than look around or children who are easily intimidated/overwhelmed with too much to see at once. The canopy, due to it's large size and stretchy material, does not remain taut unless fully extended; this leaves folds of fabric to collect at the top of the seat near the child's head. To remedy this, we tucked in the extra canopy fabric into the seat upholstery for evening strolls.

Environmental Impact
Orbit Baby's mission: "To combine sophisticated design with smart function to make world-class solutions for taking your children on the go – sensibly, easily, safely, and always with style. We’ve spent years researching, testing, and working from the ground up to create products that are elegantly simple, intuitive to use and unsurpassed in real-world safety. We apply advanced engineering, innovative design, and high-tech materials to make the best child transportation gear on the planet."

Certified Fabric: "The world’s first stroller with all fabrics and foams certified safe by Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, ensuring they are healthier for your baby and better for the environment."

Durability: "We've accounted for the wear and tear of baby travel by using high-quality materials and designing components to be durable. We go above and beyond standard required tests by designing our own methods to test our products for real-life wear and tear." A longer lasting product eliminates the need for replacements and reduces waste.

Versatility: "Our system is sensibly designed to grow as your baby grows: just swap out your Orbit seat and keep using the rest of our durable system. From a newborn infant to a rambunctious toddler, from a walk in the park to the airport terminal, you can adapt your Orbit travel system to accommodate life's roller-coaster."

Carbon footprint reduction: "Here at Orbit, we strive to be carbon neutral. The first and most important thing we can do is reduce our emissions in the first place. We are selective about our travel and we've installed showers to encourage bike commuting. We also encourage getting to work by carpool, public transit, or hybrid whenever possible. For the travel that we do, Orbit Baby purchases carbon offsets to fund green initiatives in our environment."

PVC-free: "Orbit Baby is proud to offer stroller rain shields made from a clear PVC-free material. With this PVC-free, phthalate-free, and chlorine-free polymer, we can deliver a transparent rain shield solution without the fumes, chemicals, stickiness, and that "shower-curtain smell" associated with PVC. In addition, all Orbit Baby products are free of PVC in the areas that come in contact with you and your child."

Eco-friendly offices: "In addition to using biodegradable utensils and minimal packaging at our office, we recycle all paper, plastic, and cardboard, as well as electronic equipment at authorized recycling centers. Our packaging is designed for efficient transportation and minimal waste; without bleach, plastic windows, or oily dyes, our brown paper boxes are both efficiently made and efficiently recycled."

Maintenence
Spot clean except seat, which is machine washable/line dry. 2 year warranty provided.

Storage
The fold is very easy; the handlebars end up next to the wheel. The seat, however, is best detached from the unit and laid face down on top or fully reclined for the most compact storage. Note: For storage purposes, the seat is approximately the same size as a standard infant carrier car seat if you wish to store it separately from the chassis.

Maclaren® Techno® XT Stroller

As creators of the very first umbrella stroller in 1965 and world's first car seat adaptable stroller in 1991, Maclaren is at the forefront of stroller design and innovation. Designed with comfort and durability in mind, the Maclaren® Techno® XT stroller is definitely one to check out!

Features
Practical design with time-tested durability. In our testing, this stroller earned the silver medal in popularity amongst children (Stokke® Xplory® ranked #1), likely due to Maclaren's exceptional comfort through design and high-quality materials. With four recline options, including nearly flat, this lightweight stroller takes you from newborn to kindergarten (and beyond) with the promise of safety and famaliarity of an old friend. The dual lock brake system activates both brakes simultaneously for safety with an effortless, single toe tap. The canopy provides adequate sun protection; a clear visor extension pops out from under the canopy for increased coverage. Both the sun visor and rear window are protective against UVA and UVB rays. The wheels feature reflectors for evening strolls. The handles are rubber rather than foam coated which makes for quick cleaning and longer wear.

Quality
The seat fabric consists of 100% polyester, which is soft to the touch but also durable. Out of the box there was a fair amount of offgassing odor with this stroller, which seemed to stem mostly from the clear window and sun visor as well as from the seat (possibly from the padding within as the canopy did not have this issue). The lightweight aluminum frame is sturdy. The storage basket is made of a heavier mesh material that feels quite durable despite being mesh. The tires appear to be made of rubber coated foam.

Ease of Use
Dual front and rear suspension make for a smooth ride. Very comfortable to push on smooth surfaces, such as sidewalks. Offroading through park grass proves to be bumpy, though not altogether difficult. Steering one-handed on smooth surfaces is accomplished without much effort. The seat, when reclined, blocks off rear access to the storage basket, however small articles can be accessed through the side or simply stored in the canopy's rear parental organizer pockets. A benefit to the low seat height is that a crawling toddler is able to climb into the seat on their own thanks to the balanced center of gravity, preventing it from tipping over easily (read: less backaches for mommy). The legrest and handles are both adjustable, accomodating the smallest of babies to the tallest of parents!

Environmental Impact
Maclaren's mission: To provide safe, innovative transport to the planet’s youngest citizens based upon a foundation of socially and environmentally responsible practices so the children of today can thrive in the world of tomorrow.

Recycled Packaging: "Through Maclaren sponsored recycling centers for used buggies, a mandate that all packaging contain 70% recycled fiber content with a goal of 100% within 3 years. We believe we can reuse, recycle or rethink the end-of-life use for many of our materials that would have previously be sent to a landfill."

Responsible Manufacturing: Phthalate-free. Lead-free. PVC-free. BFR-free. "A core tenet of our movement is environmentally responsible manufacturing through the use of recyclable materials and the restriction of chemical compounds or materials that harm the environment. All phthalates and lead have been eliminated as well as PVC and brominated flame retardants (BFRs)."

Reduced Carbon Footprint: Our goal is to become “carbon-neutral’ and we have taken the first steps towards achieving this by identifying our primary footprint in indirect emissions and are establishing plans to work globally with a preferred development partner to offset these emissions.

Maintenence
Seat cover is machine washable. Spot clean canopy only. 1 year warranty provided.

Storage
The stroller folds with the front tires touching the front canopy rim, however the 2011 model features easy-to-clean, smooth piping material (which is also reflective) along the canopy virtually eliminating stain concerns. While it can be folded and opened with a single hand, it is much easier to do so with two hands as it takes some time before the stroller is "broken in" enough to do this fluidly without resistance. It does not stand alone when folded; the best way to keep it upright is to hook the handlebars against a ledge or other object. The automatic latch keeps the stroller locked in the folded position for easy pickup and storage. We recommend the Techno® XT for those who are looking for an all-purpose stroller for everyday use while taking up minimal storage space.

Baby: Calendula Stater Kit from Weleda

As a new mom, it seems like everyday brings a new and interesting crisis to solve. Add in the hormones and it's no wonder why we're all stressed out, baby-toting basketcases!

One of the ways I've found that truly helps ease the potential meltdowns of the day is good preparation. That means, before you leave the house, make sure you have planned for the worst and then added a few levels to that. For example, imagine what you'd need if your precious sweetpea decides to blow out a diaper while simultaneously pulling an exorcism a la split pea soup moment AND just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, they're stricken with a faucet for a nose -- oh, and all of this happens on an airplane, camping, or some other place where you are completely limited to stock on hand for cleanup and treatment. What to do?

No worries! Why? Because you are SUPER MOM to the rescue, you're prepared, and you've got this in the bag. You whip out your handy dandy calendula baby starter kit from your diaper bag (or purse - it's small enough) and go to work. Within minutes, you have the baby all cleaned up and you're back in business. Now, let's just go back and I'll point out that this is not a hypothetical situation -- that's right, folks, and that little kit up there was my saving grace.

The Baby Starter Kit by Weleda ($13 US) contains travel sized samples of their calendula baby line of products: baby cream, lotion, body wash/shampoo, diaper care, & calendula oil. Calendula extract is known as one of the most healing plants for the skin and using these products helps your baby's skin (and yours) heal. My favorite in this kit is the calendula oil...just one drop on a cotton swab applied to the raw, chapped, and chafed skin on the upper lip from a runny nose has healed very sore skin within a day!

I must give honorable mention to their calendula diaper care cream which cleared up a nasty diaper rash within 2 days...that was pretty amazing too! Another awesome product that I keep on hand, though it is not included in this baby starter kit, is their children's tooth gel ($7 US). It has a yummy mint flavor that freshens breath and is really good at getting rid of "stinky milk mouth" - a condition that far too many mornings are ruined by. Just a pea-sized amount of this fluoride-free gel on their fingertip or toothbrush, cleans their teeth and breath anywhere/anytime.

I'd also like to mention something pretty neat I just came across, for all you other parents out there who are always googling for info to help your kids. Weleda recently created a website just for parents and caregivers, an entire community where you can find natural parenting tips and advice! To check it out, click here!

Great products, helpful online community, check this company out!

ecoDIAPERS: Which brand is best for your baby?

This is it...the eco-diaper roundup you've been waiting to read! We got our hands on the most popular brands of "green" diapers to put them to the ultimate tests. We shredded them, flooded them, tore them apart (not recommended unless you enjoy SAP gel stuffing up your nose for the next several days...oh and coming out of your mouth too - ick) and let the babies do their natural duties...what lies below is a comprehensive evaluation of the best eco-diaper options currently on the market. Enjoy!!!

Let's just start off with a friendly reminder, there is no such thing as the perfect product that works for everyone! If there were, it would be impossible to meet demand and sustainably manufacture, just based on the sheer quantities that would be required. Our goal is to find several effective products to fulfill any given need. The following review utilizes a variety of testers to provide a range of opinions and experiences; it is not based off of the input of any single person or family. As with any product, your experience may vary, just as products may vary from batch to batch.

First and foremost, many parents are confused about all the hype surrounding "chlorine-free" labeling and whether this labeling alone qualifies a product as "eco-friendly". The main problem with chlorine bleaching {and the subsequent disposal of chlorine-bleached products} is a nasty little byproduct called dioxin. Dioxin is a highly persistent toxin, meaning that it stays around for a very long time {both inside your body and in the environment}. It can be inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin. Dioxin has been shown to cause cancer amongst other very serious problems, both inside and outside the human body. Basically, it's one of the most toxic {and preventable} chemical catastrophes that exist on the planet. For in-depth information on dioxin, click here.

For the reasons mentioned above, chlorine-free bleaching is the first step in the right direction for creating a less toxic product. You will notice that we did not test/review Huggies Pure and Natural diapers below, this is because have not yet accomplished this essential first step of being chlorine-free. All disposable diapers are bleached in some way (yes, even Seventh Generation - who dyes their diapers after bleaching to gain the tan coloring). However, most eco-diapers utilize safer alternatives for bleaching such as hydrogen peroxide. As you venture further down the "greenway," you'll notice other steps that come into play, such as renewable content of materials, biodegradability, and petrochemical use (including plastics). When you move beyond simply chlorine-free, you start getting into truly greener products...ones which benefit both the user and the planet in measurable ways!

Another topic that frequently enters the discussion of disposable diapers is SAP (super absorbent polymers). This one little acronym takes off into a world of it's own with controversy so we're not going to touch it here. Most, if not all, disposable diapers contain this ingredient and we urge you to read up on it to make up your own mind about what's right for you and your family. Wikipedia is a great place to start, click here to read more about SAP. Some SAP is vegetable based whilst most is acrylic acid or petroleum based. During testing, we found some brands to have much higher occurrences of SAP leaks than others. According to one expert in the diaper industry,
"A lot of diapers, both baby and adult, a person can feel something sandy within the inside. This is a cheap production of SAP that is not truly infused with the core. Then the product has one very thin layer between the core and the baby’s skin. So it is not unheard of to have tiny crystals on the skin at times. This would be SAP leaks."

Below you will find that we have listed even the smallest details because every baby is different and needs will vary -- if you know your diapers tend to leak in certain spots or at certain times, you can narrow down which diaper would be most suitable to meet your needs based on the following information. As for our family, we ended up preferring the Bambo Nature diapers to all others...they worked the best to meet all of our needs! Thank you to all our testers and the companies who cooperated with this review.

thinksport/LIVESTRONG Sunscreen SPF 30+

With so many sunscreens sporting more toxins than protection, it can be a real challenge to decide whether it is less risky to forgo it altogether. But then, in the back of your mind, the skin cancer questionwill always remain - nipping at you slowly but surely. And for those of us with aesthetic concerns, the idea of sun spots and wrinkles creeps in as an all too definite reality without sunscreen. What's a person to do?

LIVESTRONG and thinksport are making it a lot easier on us! How, you ask? They've developed a "formulation that is already top ranked for safe sunscreen by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and is free of biologically harmful chemicals." The active ingredient is non-nano zinc oxide (20%) and this sunscreen is ranked safe (1-2) by the EWG.

Since zinc oxide is a physical sunscreen (meaning it blocks sun rays by reflecting them), it can be quite unattractive as solid cream on the skin. To minimize the opaque nature of zinc oxide, it is typically scaled down to 30 to 200 nm. This allows for less noticeable application to the skin, but still keeps it large enough not to cross through the skin (such as happens with nano-particles). According to the LiveStrong website and SmartSkinCare, "zinc oxide has a slight edge over titanium dioxide. While titanium dioxide is effective at blocking ultraviolet-B and short-wave ultraviolet-A rays, it is less effective than zinc dioxide at blocking long ultraviolet-A rays. Zinc oxide's ability to block different types of rays makes it one of the most effective sun protection products on the market at fighting the sun's rays. Zinc oxide is often combined with additional ultraviolet-B blockers to provide the most complete broad-spectrum sunscreen." The thinksport website has plenty of useful information to absorb too, including the differences between chemical and physical sunscreens, the truth about SPF ratings, and what's up with nanoparticles and why you should be very careful about your product purchases. You can read all about it here (scroll down to the "what else you might want to know" section!
With sunny weather quickly becoming the norm, we have been applying the thinksport/LIVESTRONG suncreen for a few weeks now and have found it to be very effective! Not only is it water-resistant, it has a SPF of 30+. Of course, the higher the SPF, the more protection a sunscreen offers against UV-B (sunburn). So this means that you can stay in the sun over 30 times longer than you would normally be able to without getting burned! At the modest price of $15.99, your wallet will be just as happy as your protected skin! And as if that wasn't awesome enough, the purchase of this product guarantees a minimum $1.5 million donation towards the fight against cancer!

Phil & Teds Vibe® Stroller

Award-winning design and convenient features have boosted the Phil and Ted's Vibe® stroller to fame. Appropriately referred to as the "uptown inline" - the trusty Vibe® promises to grow with your family and stick by your side for the long haul.

Features
Sleek and smooth design with the capacity to carry your most precious cargo for years to come! The seat is well-cushioned and extremely comfortable; in fact, there was more than one instance of difficulty in getting children to stay OUT of this particular stroller. The canopy adjusts to any height and various angles, including full-forward tilt, to provide optimum sun protection throughout the day and as your child grows. The newest models also feature a mesh pop-out sun visor for added shade. The hand brake system allows you to engage the wheel locks at the touch of a button without using your feet whatsoever. Perhaps the best feature though, is the Vibe's ability to grow with your family by simply adding a double seat kit to the frame, allowing you to use the same stroller as your family expands!

Quality
The Vibe® uses polyurethane and polyester materials to create ruggedly durable fabrics for the seats; however, the silky soft and cushy seat toppers make this one of the most comfortable rides around! The drawback to the materials used is the heavy off-gassing of fumes you experience out of the box and for the first few uses. The benefit is a long life cycle which reduces the chance you'll ever need another stroller during your childbearing years. With the average family going through an average of six strollers over time, investing in the right choice from the beginning is your best bet to save money and reduce waste!

Ease of Use
Provides an extremely comfortable and smooth ride on most surfaces. Maneuverability is maximized, this stroller can turn on a dime on a moment's notice! Although the stroller expands with your family, the doubles seat kit takes up the storage basket and swaps it out for leg room. Since it's difficult to find a diaper bag that attaches to the handle without hanging down on the head of the child in the doubles seat, you'll likely want to invest in a backpack diaper bag since there is no on-board storage available with the doubles kit attached.

Environmental Impact
Phil and Teds goal: "To be the number one brand of choice for parents, allowing them to continue to lead a dynamic and active lifestyle, with kids in tow!"

Ongoing effort and commitment: "We take back pre-loved buggies, service them, spruce them up & donate them back into the community to a deserving cause!"

Reduced packaging materials: Of all the strollers we have tested and reviewed, this one had the least amount of packaging waste!

Reduced waste through durable, adaptable products: Being built to last and growing old with your family never looked so good!

Maintenence
Hand wash; air dry. The rubber tires may require replacement from regular use. 1 year warranty provided.

Storage
Compact fold can be achieved with doubles seat kit attached. Another great feature is the ability to easily wheel this stroller by the handlebar around while folded.

Bumbleride® Indie® Natural Edition Stroller

Bumbleride® wants to get your family out and about in style with their eco-friendly Indie® Natural Edition stroller. Made from recycled aluminum, recycled polyester, and recycled plastics - this sporty stroller begs to be seen everywhere from the soccer fields to the beach boardwalk!

Features
The Indie® Natural Edition seat reclines completely flat, making this a practical choice for napping infants. The canopy can be adjusted forward to block the sun at multiple angles and provides SPF 45 protection. The storage basket (18" x 15" x 10” DWH) is adequately sized for a larger diaper bag with the mesh basket opening to the rear rather than to the top as most, optimizing accessibility. We found that this works great for tossing in soccer balls or other toys for park trips! The front wheel locks allowing this stroller to function as a lightweight jogger for exercise purposes. Our favorite feature? The compact fold is smaller and tighter with dual locks, allowing smaller trunks to easily accommodate the Indie® for storage and travel.

Quality
The aluminum frame consists of up to 20% recycled metals and has proven to be efficiently lightweight and sturdy. The Indie® Natural Edition features 50% recycled material on the canopy as well as 50% sustainably produced bamboo fiber on the seating surfaces, maximizing moisture absorption while naturally inhibiting bacterial growth (an innate property of untreated bamboo). We contacted the company regarding mislabeled tags stating all fabrics and filling consist of 100% polyester on the stroller we received and were assured that newer labels have been corrected to reflect recycled and bamboo content.

While the materials are easy to wipe clean of crumbs and debris from everyday use, they lack the feeling of substantial quality. The fabric feels much like a softer version of the disposable pillowcases offered by airlines for in-flight use. The underlying foam is thin and bends out of shape easily. Overall, the quality of textiles used begs the question of longevity through repeated uses. On the bright side, no fire retardants are used on the fabric which means less chemical exposure for your little one. We suggest investing in a soft, organic stroller liner for long term use with the Indie® Natural Edition stroller for increased comfort and appeal.

Ease of Use
The best feature of this stroller is the extremely easy maneuverability it provides - gliding across the ground and turning on a dime! This stroller was tested during a marathon; the tester complimented the smooth ride, noting her wrists did not hurt from vibrations as she is accustomed to with her regular stroller. A few times when running on bumpier surfaces, the back wheel lock bar engaged suddenly and unintentionally; we were unable to determine the cause or if any defect is present.

Initial setup out of the box took approximately 30 minutes and required detailed instructions; we'd like to see the strollers delivered mostly assembled for busy parents on the go! Strap adjustments require complete re-threading of straps through buckles to adjust to proper height, there are no shortcuts – it would be time intensive to adjust this stroller for multiple children on any regular basis. The straps are excessively long and there is no method of storage for the additional length. For example, adjusting to a typical one year old child allowed for 4 straps "tails" of 9” length each leftover, simply hanging across the child; this makes it prone to tangling and does not provide a finished look. We would like to see attached elastic bands to roll the additional strap lengths into once adjusted and easier strap height adjustment.

The height and shape of the canopy limits usability for older or taller children, restricting their view (see dimensions section for actual measurements). However, for smaller/shorter children, we love the mesh ventilation window on top of the canopy. We like the option of removal of the back of the canopy for maximum ventilation in summer, although at the cost of the parental storage pocket - we'd like to see a ventilation design that doesn't sacrifice the much-needed parental storage!

The complaint we most often heard was about the adjustable footrest, which inevitably locks in an upward position every time you unfold the stroller for use. The buttons you must depress to release the footrest lock are hidden on the underside and difficult to push simultaneously. We would like to see this feature improved upon, possibly by relocating the footrest buttons to the outside of the stroller for easy access.

The child's multi-use bar locks at unusual positions: the higher position blocks the view of younger children near eye level, but the lower position places the bar at too great of a distance from younger children and too low (laying across legs) of older children. We also did not like the foam covered handle, which becomes tacky in hot and humid weather. The thick air-filled rubber tires offer 12” diameter and plenty of traction for both on and off road; on the down side, the innertube can deflate and pop just as that in a bicycle tire so you must operate cautiously. We would like to see Bumbleride® incorporate recycled rubber into their tires.

Despite the smooth ride, our toddler testers were uncomfortable riding in the Bumblebee Indie. During our first tests, we discovered a defective tire and had it replaced. Subsequent tests resulted in a lot of continued crying and complaints, which we did not experience with other strollers in our comparative reviews. Every child is different, therefore your experience may vary; unfortunately, in our tests, the Bumbleride Indie provided the least positive child reaction.

Environmental Impact
Bumbleride values innovation, design, and above all, aims to provide an unsurpassed customer experience! To make it "just a little bit easier for families to get outside and be active together, and that goal is the motivation behind [their] innovative thinking."

Charitable efforts: "We give used product new life by donating to different charities and organizations, some of which include Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and their NICU, Baby Buggy, and an orphanage in Mexico."

Recycling : Recycling of returned and damaged strollers which cannot be donated, packaging materials, and paper, plastic, and glass goods from their office. Indie strollers are currently manufactured utilizing recycled aluminum, recycled polyester, and recycled plastic (for the backrest/seat boards).

Community Outreach: Project Bumbleride gives back to hospitals, parks, beaches, museums, schools and other family-centered organizations throughout the U.S. Recently, they hosted two public beach cleanups at a local beach for Earth Day to help teach children the importance of protecting our environment. Promotion of this program is made through sustainble offerings such as reusable canvas shopping bags.

Maintenence
Seat cover is removable and machine washable (cold), air dry. Spot clean canopy. The air-filled rubber tires are subject to replacement with use. 1 year warranty provided.

Storage
The Indie® leads the pack when it comes to compact fold for storage. The two side latches secure the stroller in a locked fold, and you can carry it through narrow openings by the handlebar or carry strap.

Accessories
Tiltable parental cupholder is included, however it attaches to the side of the stroller and sticks out about 4” - just enough to tip over anytime you bump against a doorway or rack at the store. We also had a problem, with the canopy collapsed indoors, of the children reaching for and tipping over the cupholder, spilling contents. For these reasons, we only recommend using cold water or spillproof container when using the cupholder (for staining and safety purposes). Available for optional purchase: carrycot, rainshield (pvc-free), snack tray, footmuff and liner, and travel case.

Recommended for: Small children who prefer to recline with no handlebar; Sporty mamas with petite babies; Compact car owners; Babies who like to stroll the beach boardwalk

Stokke Tripp Trapp® Dining Chair for Infants -> Adults

Think about how many things occur at your dining table. Games. Meals. Socializing. Artwork. Bonding.  This is the place where you share your meals and your lives. A place where you connect with your family and friends.

Now think of the typical high chair for children. Most have a tray that keeps the child several inches away from the table. Many are not adjustable to varying table heights. Others do not fit well into the space provided. All in all, during your child's most influential years, many traditional high chairs keep your child from participating in the wonderful events that occur at the family dinner table on a nightly basis. It leaves them...well, disconnected.

Giving your child comfortable and naturally ergonomic seating since 1972, the Tripp Trapp® chair brings families closer together...literally!

Features
The simple, contemporary design allows for easy yet thorough cleaning after every meal! With multiple adjustments to custom fit your child, this high chair goes beyond the baby years and proves to be just as useful throughout childhood into adulthood.

The Tripp Trapp® can be fully adjusted to "custom fit your child’s body through its unique depth and height adjustable seat and foot plate. This enables comfortable and correct ergonomic seating for children of any age." The stable footrest supports their feet and allows them to sit comfortably at just the right height! Their upper body is supported with a backrest positioned at the depth that best suits them, depending on how you adjust the seat for your child.

Each chair is sustainably produced using your choice of cultivated beech, American walnut, or European oak. Not only are these woods eco-friendly, but they are also strong and durable. In fact, Stokke products are specifically designed to last a lifetime and beyond!

Baby: Innobaby Packin' Smart 4-Tier Stack-n-Seal

Everyone knows that kids grow like weeds, but what most non-parents don't realize is the reason why they shoot up inches each month! I'm going to go ahead and break the sworn secrecy contract of parenthood and let you in on a little secret...children eat ALL OF THE TIME! Seriously, not barely an hour goes by during their waking hours that kids aren't nibbling on one thing or another. And if you don't have food on hand at any given moment, they're likely to start chewing on other things like their hands or worse yet, your hands!

To prevent this very common childhood affliction (incessant hunger), experienced parents know the many benefits of keeping a stash of snackage supplies on and at all times! Now, this is fairly easily accomplished if you're at home or happen to be in a populated area with other stocked parents or restaurants; however, you never know when you're going to end up somewhere with no access to snack foods and if you're unprepared, the infamous toddler meltdown may occur.

My recommendation? The Innobaby Stack-n-Seal ($17.99 US) container allows you to carry up to 4 generous toddler-sized portions wherever you venture. One of the great benefits of the Innobaby design over other similar models is that each tier provides it's own "easy pour spout" lid for easy disbursement of snacks without accidentally pouring out the entire thing all at once! It can be easily customized to fit your needs; 1 container, 4 containers, or more (they only sell up to the 4-tier but you can buy more and screw them all together just the same). The plastic is recyclable polypropylene (#5) which is known to be non-leaching. And what I really like is that it is the perfect size for my diaper bag, slipping unnoticed into the inside corner and there's no digging around to find it since it is a tall container.

Available in several colors and designs.

Baby: Beco Organic Drooling Pads

One of the most precious bonding activities is the ability to have your sweet little one snuggled up to your chest wherever you go. Through our many years of juggling baby carriers, we settled upon our favorite - a brand called Beco. Beco baby carriers are soft sided, they are like wrapping up your baby in wholesome organic love, plus they're quick and easy to use! You can wear the baby on your front (facing in or out) or on your back - and the carrier is built to last well beyond the toddler years so it's a great idea if you plan to go hiking with your 3 year old, too! There are several models available from this wonderful company and really, they're all absolutely wonderful and there's something for every body type. Regardless of which model you end up falling head over heels for, there is one handy dandy accessory you need to know about -- drooling pads!

Beco's drooling pads are 100% organic cotton terry cloth, making them super soft and absorbent! You simply fasten them around your shoulder straps in the front via the velcro-like closure (a.k.a. touch tape) and there they stay for your baby to suck and nibble on, sparing your shoulders and tee from the unavoidable baby drool!  A pack of two drooling pads is only $20 and they fit your Beco shoulder straps perfectly to a T. Perhaps the second best thing beyond saving you from an accidental wet t-shirt contest from baby is that these pads are machine washable - so you can simply toss them in the washer at the end of the day and they're good to go again for another slobbery adventure the next morning! Definitely an accessory to make your life a little bit easier and a lot less messy...

In the Kitchen: Peter Rabbit Organics

I'm not sure how I made it to my third child without having experienced the absolutely simplest way to feed them -- but now that I know about these great baby food pouches, there is no turning back!

Whether you are traveling or just tired of washing baby spoons, this is the perfect solution! The twist off cap reveals a spout that the baby (over 6 months of age) can actually suck on and quickly get their entire meal - literally within a minute! It's like a smoothie on the go...and for us mommies, it is AMAZING!

The cap is recyclable, the entire pouch is bpa-free and takes less resources to make than traditional glass jars. Since they are flat, they take up less space in landfills and are smaller to transport. But the truly wholesome goodness lies within the variety of fruit and veggie flavors, all organic (USDA certified), that make these must-have meals and snacks.

We allowed our little one to choose from their wide variety of combinations (shown in photo) and he selected the Mango, Banana, and Orange pouch. I was a little hesitant coming from the school of thought that oranges can be harsh on a baby's organs, causing a huge glucose spike, but I was really reassured after looking into this and seeing that only a small amount of orange is used - negating any negatives and simply boosting nutrients! Our baby happily gulped down EVERY flavor, despite being a picky eater. I can confidently say that this is the best way to go if you can't make your own baby food from scratch!

Lifefactory Glass Beverage Bottles

Glass is a trusted material that has been used for years throughout houses and the world! It is 100% recyclable and negates worries of toxic chemicals leached by many plastics. The glass and polypropylene cap can be recycled curbside in most cities, while the silicone sleeve may be shipped back to Lifefactory for recycling.

Glass is also taste-friendly, and does not hold odors or stains like plastics or metals can do. And if you're someone who weighs the social impacts along with environmental impacts in your purchases, you'll be happy to know that these bottles are made in France, Poland, and the USA.

The sleeve is removable, but the entire bottle is dishwasher-safe or easily rinsed in the sink. After many washes, it still looks like new and we have not experienced any problems such as cracking of the silicone or fading. The bottle we tested is lovingly known as the "grape bottle" in our house, due to it's royal purple sleeve with circle cut-outs - and we absolutely adore it's design!

But....if you're like me, you're a bit hesitant to hand your child anything made of glass for fear of it shattering and cutting little fingers. It took me a few days of using this water bottle on my own to overcome this fear. First of all, the silicone sleeve does a great job of providing grip and lessening the chance of dropping. Secondly, the sleeve wraps around the entire bottle including the base edges, meaning that if and when you accidentally drop it, it is unlikely to break easily

I found myself becoming more careless with its handling as the days went on, treating it more like one of our metal bottles, but it did not break. I'm confident in recommending this to our readers because it really performed exceptionally well and has so many benefits that you cannot find outside of glass. You may love it as we do, or you may not, but one thing is sure -- you need to give it the chance to impress you!

Available in a wide variety of colors (15+) and sizes (4-22oz).

Price: $12.49 - 21.99 US

They aim to do just what their name implies...provide YOU with a better life through more effective, non-toxic cleaning products that make your life simpler, healthier, and ultimately, happier! What you won't find in their products will impress you...Impress me, you say? How's this for starters (and yes, they have the proof to back this all up - we checked on it):

  • NO ethyloxylates (endocrine disruptor; linked to cancer and sterility)

...are you convinced yet? These products are pretty awesome on paper...now for the testing phase. Do they work? We jumped at the opportunity to try their entire product line and test it out on a house full of little boys...could their products handle our all-consuming vortex of daily crud? Here's what our experience was with each product.
What-EVER! All Purpose Cleaner ($6.99) cleans, well you guessed it, whatever hard surfaces you've got on your to-do list for today! Countertops, toilet seats, tables, chairs, sinks, showers, and even the walls...if it's a hard surface and you can wash it, you can spray it with this cleaner. It is available in scent-
    free or clary sage/citrus.

This cleaner worked well on everything we triedit on, and we tried it on just about everything! It left our toilets sparkling, my countertops have never felt so smooth and clean (it leaves absolutely no residue or stickiness behind), and handled clean-ups quickly and without effort. The essential oils used to scent the clary sage/citrus really help to perk up your day; a known aromatherapeutic effect of clary sage. So I'm not really sure if it was the single swipe cleaning on every surface or the pleasant aromatherapy treatment I received while mopping up our everyday messes - but using this cleaner made a big difference in my daily routine!

Ingredients: purified water, coconut surfactant, vegetable-based surfactant (corn), natural amino acid surfactant, clary sage essential oil, lemon essential oil, preservative (.08%)

Even The Kitchen Sink Gentle Scrubber ($6.99 US) is an odorless, scratch-free polishing cleaner that works well on stainless steel, tile, bathtubs, glass, porcelain, and stone. I decided to test it out on our stovetop, the one that has had oodles of noodles overflow on it, caking starch to the surface repeatedly, and simply put - I've been trying to clean it off for actually 3 months now with bottle cleaners - nothing has worked (and I've been refusing to yank out the elbow grease and spend an afternoon on it with a homemade paste - just not enough hours in the day lately).

Alas, this gentle scrubber was put to work, hard work, cleaning my sticky stovetop. I was so excited about how this would turn out that I took photos of the process...yes, I know, I'm goofy - but you can thank me later when you discover the magic of these effective products for yourself! ;-) The end result was amazing...the caked-on mess that every other cleaner had failed to clear for months was wiped off with very little scrubbing effort within seconds! It was pretty darn amazing.

Ingredients: purified water, calcium carbonate, corn-based surfactant, coconut oil surfactant, coconut oil, vegetable wax, xanthan gum, preservative (.01%)

Simply Floored Floor Cleaner ($7.29 US) is a ready-to-use, no rinsing required formula that leaves your floors super shiny and squeaky clean! It works on any hard flooring you have (given that it's washable obviously)....vinyl, tile, marble, bamboo, hardwood, laminate. Despite having a crawling infant, as long as the ingredients are safe and it removes the gunk, I'm good with it...alas, I've given this one the green light! The slight spearmint scent that lingers around the house after cleaning with this also makes it rather soothing!

Ingredients: purified water, coconut and corn-based surfactant blend, vegetable glycerin, spearmint essential oil, grapefruit essential oil, bergamot essential oil, preservative (.08%)

I Can See Clearly, WOW! Glass Cleaner ($6.99 US) is unscented and a little bit goes a long way! It wasn't as effective of a cleaner as what-EVER! all purpose cleaner in our testing, so if you have toothpaste bits on the kids' bathroom mirror, I would recommend a quick spritz of what-EVER! first and then following up with this glass cleaner to polish it up to a streak-free shine! Other than that, it will leave your windows and glass absolutely sparkling.

Did youknow that you can reduce your energy bills by angling your blinds for the sunlight to shine into your house on the floor during the day? But if even the tiniest dust particles or residue are on the windows, it will reflect the light back out and you lose that heating advantage and energy savings. Yet another awesome reason, beyond aesthetics, to clean your windows regularly with a streak-free cleaner like this one!

Ingredients: purified water, coconut surfactant, vegetable-based surfactant (palm and corn), preservative (.08%)

2am Miracle Nursery Cleaner ($6.99 US) is a multi-purpose, multi-surface cleaner that's specially designed to clean cribs, toys, changing tables, car seats, highchairs, diaper pails, and nursery walls/floors. It can also be used as a deodorizer and on clothing as a stain pre-treatment! Perhaps, most importantly, this cleaner has been proven to remove more germs and bacteria off surfaces than conventional disinfectants!

As a parent, I cannot stress enough the importance to have anursery cleaner on hand at all times in your house (or if you have room, take it with you in the diaper bag - changing stations in public restrooms are disgusting, having your cleaner on hand will allow you to change the baby without covering them in all sorts of nasty germs). Actually, I wish they made this nursery cleaner in a travel size for that very purpose (hmmm...time to email product development with my suggestion/request ;-)! And I'm not going to go into details on this one too much, I'll just reference their motto for this product, "3P's: Pee, Poop, Puke. Just spray, wipe, and go back to sleep," and agree -- yep! It does all of that and more!

Ingredients: purified water, natural amino acid surfactant, coconut surfactant, vegetable-based surfactant, botanical extract (undisclosed), lavender essential oil, chamomile essential oil, preservative (.01%)
