Body & Hair Care: Wise Earth

Organic. Wild-Crafted. Paraben-free. Sulfate-free. Made in Canada.

TRUTH Shampoo and Conditioner (available in Unscented or Citrus)

A little bit goes a long way with this sustainably awesome line of hair care from Canada. The thick shampoo requires only a dab mixed with warm water to leave your locks feeling luxuriously soft! For those of you looking to moisturize color-treated hair or tame frizzy fly-aways, this is a product you'll want to consider looking at. If you have oily hair, you may be better off with a different product since this line tends to add even more shine.

TRUTH Body Wash (available in Unscented or Citrus)

This is a great body wash to use as a shaving gel or with a loofah. The blend works well to lather with water and doesn't leave the skin feeling stripped of natural oils like many other body washes may do. Our suggestion is to buy a lot of this body wash, however, because we found ourselves using copious amounts of it in both the shower and as a bubble bath!

Moksa Organics: Bath and Body with Purpose

It’s getting to that point in winter where I’m literally going to scream aloud if I don’t get some sunshine soon. Really soon. It’s also about this time of year when my skin is crying out for extra moisture after several long months of winter’s cold, dry air. Luckily for me, I’ve discovered a really awesome and easy way to escape the last days of winter…with Moksa Organics!

Moksa Organics delivers the whole package with lightly scented body butters that not only nourish your skin but your weary winter soul! The delightfully tropical key lime vanilla scent is subtle yet effective, allowing your mind to drift off to a southern beach strewn with palm trees! While it works wonderfully as an entire body cream, it is especially effective when applied to the hardened heels on your feet. Overnight and on more than one occasion, I've treated my tootsies to a Moksa hydration sleepover and it works like nothing else to soften callouses.

Another wonderful product to try, one that everyone needs, are their body bars! Moksa body bars are absolutely heavenly to use in the bath or shower and clean very well, even in hard water conditions. Some, like Payne's Prairie Organic Body Bar, donate 100% of all proceeds to charity! My favorite so far has been the Yasgur's Farm Organic Body Bar - the woodstock blend of patchouli and orange with just the right amount of exfoliating power to free my skin of winter plague (dry, dead skin cells). One bar lasts quite a long time, much longer than a normal bar of soap - in fact, about 3-4x longer than from what we've tested!

Not only does this company make effective products, their ethical standards are something to aspire to. Here is an excerpt from their website regarding their carbon neutral certification.
Moksa believes in starting a “clean” revolution one bar of soap at a time! Part of our business philosophy includes:
  • waste reduction of raw materials
  • perfecting our soap formulas (understanding the chemistry and molecular process) in order to eliminate end product waste
  • reduction of water usage (our system for clean up entails a 3 part system that uses only a few gallons of water)
  • overall energy reduction (energy efficient appliances, using off peak hours during creation and curing processes)
  • AVOIDING NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES such as aluminum & tin containers (not to mention the environmental impact from mining), packaging made from petroleum such as plastics (PP, PET, PS, etc), as well as avoiding petroleum in our products, eliminating ingredients whenever possible that go through a refinement process
  • avoiding paper products, packaging and labels from the logging industry
  • supporting and purchasing from suppliers with the same business philosophy
We don’t waiver from our beliefs, even if it means that we as a producer make less money. Each and every day we feel good about what we do, and that’s worth so much more!
This is definitely a company that you'll want to show support for! Check them out today.

Many moons ago, when my friend and I first started writing our review blog, she had just finished reviewing a few products and gave me some of her leftover supply - a jar of hand cream (which worked wonders on my chapped winter hands) and this bar of facial cleansing soap from Kiss My Face.

It sat neglected in my bathroom cabinet for, seriously, years. I used mostly liquid facial cleansers and despite being unhappy with everything I’d tried I wasn’t too keen to give this bar a try because, well, it was a bar soap. Bar soaps leave your skin feeling dry and neglected - plus, don’t you use bar soaps at the bathroom sink? I like to wash my face in the shower and I was worried the bar soap would get ruined somehow in the shower, with water constantly running over it.

So I just sort of kept it around like, “Maybe sometime if I run out of whatever I’m using, I’ll give this a try.” I thought about keeping it on my counter in case I ever wanted to wash my face when I wasn’t showering. That never really happened either.

Then one day I was pinching pennies and needed facial soap. I looked into the cabinets to see if I had anything lying around and spotted the Kiss My Face box. I almost put it on the bathroom counter, but then I glanced in the shower. My husband used bar soap - it was right there in the shower, totally fine. I’d also recently reviewed a bar soap that I surprisingly loved (it’s by Caress and not an eco-friendly brand, but it ex-foliated wonderfully and did not leave my skin feeling dry) so I was feeling a little warmer about bar soaps in general and decided to give it a try.

Holy cow, guys. Seriously. This is good stuff. I ran the bar under the shower water in my hands, rubbing some of the soap into my palms. Then I just sort of rubbed the soap on my hands onto my face and it lathered just a bit. I rinsed it off after a bit and my skin felt fantastic. It just felt so natural and normal, like “isn’t this how soap is supposed to feel?”

I’ve been using this bar of soap for about 6 months now and that same bar is still going strong. So although you might consider a $13 bar of soap a bit expensive, I really feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. The thing has lasted forever, works great and smells nice - and it’s totally eco-friendly, containing no animal ingredients, artificial colors, or unnecessary chemicals and it wasn’t tested on animals. So you can feel really good while you're washing up with this bar soap!

I also loved that the scent was so innocuous. It doesn’t smell floral or girly which means my husband could use it if he ever wanted to. It just smells clean, you know? And I just found out yesterday that he has in fact been using this soap for awhile now - which means, holy moley this stuff lasts forever!

My husband wants to add that not only does he love using this soap and likes the scent and blah blah blah, it’s also the best facial cleanser he’s used in awhile for his acne. Granted, he’s not a teenager anymore, but he swears this stuff works as well as any of the expensive treatments his mother bought him growing up.

So - great for your skin, good smelling, eco-friendly, lasts forever - what are you waiting for guys? You’ve gotta try this stuff!

                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first thing we noticed...these cleansers are naturally black!
As I poured out a dime size on the palm of my hand to first try out the Destiny Boutique Charcoal Facial Detox Cleanser, I noticed that the substance on my hand was midnight black! Normally, I would associate this color with dirt, not cleanliness...but the minty fresh scent persuaded me to go for it and rub it all over my face. Wow! How refreshing it truly was! The peppermint refreshes your mind and skin, adding a bit of a tingle that makes you feel really clean, and the tiny bits of charcoal worked to exfoliate dull, dead skin cells as I cleansed. I nominate this product as the new "Texas Tea" or "Black Gold" - it's definitely much better for the planet and your skin! Afterall, most of the cleansers on the store shelves are made with petro products, a.k.a. oil just like the kind your car uses.
Charcoal? Why Charcoal?
"Charcoal - not the one from your BBQ grill, but the specially processed activated kind - can adsorb nasty organics and environmental junk better than any other known substance rendering them ineffective and harmless.
Charcoal can do these various things because of its ability to attract other substances to its surface and hold them there by adsorption. One teaspoon of activated charcoal has a surface area of more than a football field.
Charcoal has proven track record for its detoxifying power. Ancient physicians including Hippocrates recommended the use of charcoal for medicinal purposes. North American Indians used it for skin infections. In Asia it has been used for centuries to whiten the skin. It is also legendarily used to unclog pores, remove impurities and dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin, resulting supple, delicate and smooth skin."
Great for men or women!
I've subjected my husband to many products in our time, but this is one product that I simply sat in the shower and his curiosity got the best of him. Even though our review has been completed, he refuses to part with this cleanser. Seriously. For a man to love a facial cleanser...now THAT says something about how great this product is.
Bonus: Free Wildflowers...
Each product label is made of a specialty paper which contains wildflower seeds - just plant and water your label. Soon you will be rewarded with not only very soft, supple skin, but also a beautiful windowsill garden to gaze upon!
