Before we dive into the actual product review, we want to share a reminder on our strict testing standards! Since so many times, reviews are not down over time proper testing in real life conditions (i.e. toddlers with food, playing in the mud, and washing their favorite tee for the 10th time today), many reviews on the web lead to severely disappointed consumers. Why? Because the products don't hold up as well on the 80th wash as they did on the first 2! Here at ecoSAFE, we strive to give you the more accurate review of eco-friendly products so that you will have reasonable expectations as to a product's performance in your home. Although doing it this way is incredibly time-intensive (and companies aren't also so keen on waiting months to have their review published), we feel this is the only way to honestly and wholeheartedly stamp our seal of approval on it. Now, on with the show!

The Zomsters tee is a very cute thing indeed! It is sure to make your lil' monster the cutest on your street! With bright, vivid colors and unique imagery, each tee is lovingly crafted with charm in mind. After many, many washes (to the tune of 2 months worth), the tee is slightly faded but still retains it's appeal. The print screened design did not peel or otherwise deteriorate, even with ample dryer time. We did notice that the shirts do tend to run small in comparison with other brands and would recommend, especially since they are cotton, that you buy up one size for immediate wear!


Case in point, these little shirts have lots of personality in a small punch with oodles of eco-friendliness dripping out the seams!!! Check them out!!!


Clothing: See Kai Run Organic Socks



See Kai Run has just introduced organic cotton socks to their line-up of fabulous footwear for young children! Available in 6 coordinating sets, they perfectly match the new Spring/Summer line. Our favorite is the classic pure argyle pairs!


We tested the chevron deluxe patterned pair of socks. Not only are these socks super soft, but they perfectly match the new "Dan" shoes - you can check them out here! With two pairs of socks for just $10, organic is affordable and stylish.

For the review, our testers put these socks through the wringer - literally! They held up well through machine washing and drying, becoming softer with each wash. They are stretchy and not too thin, but not too thick - as Goldilocks would say, they're just right!

Baby: Striped Romper & Aviator Cap from Positively Organic

If bright, bold, and comfy are your style...then buying Positively Organic baby clothing will not only clothe your baby, but also make a difference in the world in which he lives!

Positively Organic uses hand picked, ring spun cotton that is grown in India and certified organic. They then use low-impact dyes which are free of heavy metals and nickel-free snaps, meaning their clothing doesn't irritate even the most sensitive of skin.

We received this beautifully made Striped Romper ($32) with matching Aviator Cap ($18) for Baby Bear to wear! First, let me just say that the colors are absolutely vibrant and do NOT fade, even on the first wash. It is a nice cotton knit that is lightweight and would work best in mild climates. At this point I have to comment, I really wish they had a version of this romper which was lined in fleece (like the matching aviator cap, which is lined in fleece) -- I would buy it in a heartbeat simply for the style and warmth! *crossing my fingers*

The sizing does run a bit smaller than most brands, so I would recommend ordering the next size larger than your child is currently in. Baby Bear is 7 months old and wearing 12 month size, however this 12-18 month size romper barely fits him for total length and is tight in both the waist and torso length. Overall, as far as fit goes, this romper fits snugly and would work well for sleep or play!

The matching Aviator Cap is beyond adorable...seriously...this is a must-have item for ANY baby or toddler. It features an outer organic cotton knit print but on the inside is where the true gem lies, it is completely lined in super duper soft organic fleece! Why is this hat better than others out there? It has an advantage over crocheted and hand knit hats in that it is solid, no wind is going to enter in through the small holes. It isn't synthetic fleece like many others you will find, which are just woven threads of petroleum plastic on your child's head. And you are not only buying what's best for your child and the planet, but for the people who created the hat...it's a full circle of positive karma goodness!

Bottom line:  Even if money is tight, your baby needs to have adequate protection from the cold this winter...and this is your baby's must-have splurge item!

Maggie's Organics was built upon fair labor and sustainable products that are built to last! Their products are designed to be plush and comfy from the get-go and to stay that way through repeated washing and drying over time. Their socks and scarf both held up well over repeated uses, but the knit pants tended to ball up a bit on the inner thighs. It wasn't enough to become a problem and I still think the benefits of buying organic and fair trade outweigh the tiny amount of pilling I noticed after the first use. The knit pants are fabulous for use during yoga, they are slimming despite being fitted and I found them to be quite comfortable in cool Autumn temps. The socks are so thick and cozy, they are quite enjoyable to wear around the house while snuggling up by the fire. The scarf is made of a t-shirt cotton material, wrapping your neck in the lightweight, familiar warmth of your favorite old tee!

Each and every hat is hand-created with the greatest of love and care, with both the environment and your little ones' comfort in mind! The sizing is a little larger than American counterparts, thus I would recommend you purchase by age instead of typical sizing. The photo shows our 6 month old tester in the 6-12 month size, and as you can see, this hat has plenty of room for growth.

As for the warmth, I believe this will easily provide enough warmth for winter exposure. Afterall, a baby is usually not outside for long in below-freezing temperatures. However, if you wanted to ensure extra warmth, a simple thin cotton knit cap would easily assist in this effort - making this particular hat readily useful for three seasons.


The crochet pattern varies from the resemblance of a sequoia pine cone on the main body, to a tightly woven knit on the collared border. The delicate oak leaves resting atop the acorn are securely fixed in place, though they appear as if they could simply blow along with the tranquil Autumn breeze. To top it all off, a small stem protrudes from the top of your little one's head...completing the look.

The cotton used is not only organically grown and responsibly processed, but it is luxuriously soft and supple to the touch. It truly is one of the highest quality children's hats I have come across. If you are interested in a quality accessory for your child that will actually be used, this is it!

We love this medium-weight terry cloth set on Baby Bear! The fabric is textured on the outer, but completely smooth and soft on the inside against baby's skin. The adjustable waist with elastic will shrink or stretch for a perfect fit. The pants remind me of my favorite yoga pants, just perfect for lounging about and relaxing! The shirt has two sets of snaps to ensure it stays in place. The fabric is tightly woven, so it should last a very long time. Due to the weight and tight weave of the cotton, I would feel very comfortable with this being used with an undershirt in winter or by itself during cool seasons. The only concern we have is that some of the blue dye did transfer during the first wash so I would recommend you hand wash the first few times and use cold water (as per the wash instructions). As you can see, Baby Bear is quite comfy in this outfit!

There really are no words to describe how incredibly soft and snuggly this vest is! It feels like a super soft, short fleece, but much softer than any polyester fleece I've ever felt. I really have no comparison I can think of, but I must say that you won't be disappointed! It fits just right, the sizing is true to age (read: if your 1 year old is in 2t with other brands, they would actually fit 12-18m size in this brand). Little Bear loves to wear this vest, it's much easier to put on than a jacket (darn those inverted arms after repeated on/off episodes). It pairs nicely with khakis or jeans, I think it would look incredibly good with a pair of chocolate brown corduroys. It washes up quite nicely, we had no problems with dye transfer. The quality is exceptional and I'm sure this vest will last many, many years!

I'm always impressed when I see a large corporation making an honest effort to go green. Gymboree Organics is my latest fascination and I'm so happy to have the chance to review their new line and share it with everyone! While there are many people who scoff at large companies' attempts at going green, I think it is a very important step for the world...and here's why!
If the entire population of the USA decided to go green tomorrow and only buy sustainable, organically produced products - we would have a lot of naked, hungry people walking around - it would be chaotic! Why is that? There would be a huge spike in the demand for organic products, but since it takes a long time and a lot of effort (and a lot of people) to grow organic materials, there would be a huge shortage in the supply department. Meaning, we simply wouldn't have enough products for all of those people.
And while it is awesome to support local businesses and small businesses, it is just as important to support large corporations that are turning over a new leaf and going green! We as consumers must teach them through voting with our dollars that it is profitable for them to go green, that their business will flourish along with the environment and the people making and buying their products! These companies have much longer arms that reach internationally and hold great power in their ability to make a huge eco-friendly impact on the entire world!
Last but not least, we all have to start somewhere - companies are no exception to this rule. I'm willing to bet there are few amongst us who are perfect and have made the best decision right off the bat every time. Just like children, we must learn and take baby steps in the right direction - learning from our errors and progressing and developing our ethics, conscience, and outlook. And as many of you know, it can be quite overwhelming to take those first few steps. Here we have a company who is taking baby steps and I for one applaud their efforts....and let's admit it, the clothes are super cute....let's talk more about that!
The Gymboree Organics line features 100% organically grown cotton! Why is this important? Cotton is the huge source of water pollution in the world - the pesticide runoff from cotton crops taint the water of billions of people! And it's not just water in foreign countries, our water systems in the USA are not designed to remove most modern chemicals either. So what's the solution? When you and I buy products made with 100% organic cotton (heads up: read the label - don't let companies fool you with calling something organic when it contains minimal %), we are voting with our dollars economically and saying, "we want organic cotton, stop polluting our water!" It's really quite a fascinating and empowering way to shop -- give it a try!


Another thing I REALLY love about this collection is the thick quality of the fabric! It just feels luxuriously soft on my baby's skin...it isn't cheap (although with the current sale, your wallet is going to be VERY happy with the price) and you can tell that it is going to last a very long time! Many baby clothes start to stretch out, lose shape, and the fibers thin out with repeated washings, but the Gymboree Organics line is not only holding up well in the washer and dryer, it is actually getting softer and the knit seems better fitted after each wash! I can only assume this is due to the high quality fabric and organic materials used...it is really awesome!!!
Lastly, as many of you know, I'm ALL about having my babies look like babies, which isn't easy considering my newborns are in 9-12 month size within the first few months. I buy boutique quite often because it is rare to be able to find larger sizes that are age appropriately decorated...but then I run into the boutique sizing, where size 5T is equivalent to 24 months size in mainstream clothing! It's really quite a mess to just find good organic baby clothing that makes my babies look their age. Gymboree Organics has solved this problem! How absolutely adorable are these rocking horses? It makes for such a classy baby, perfectly styled! And all of their organics line is just as cute; previously they featured teddy bears with tan stripes - another classic baby theme! My only complaint? I wish they carried larger sizes -- I would love to see them carry this line up to size 6 because then I could buy their clothing through age 3 for our little ones! Hopefully with enough positive feedback from the public, they will decide to expand their line -- this mama for one is IN LOVE! <3

Baby Soy definitely has it's own unique features - afterall, how many articles of clothing do you own made from soybean plants? Scratch that. Have you even heard of soybean fiber being used in clothing? Me neither. But it's true...the multi-purpose plant that has found its way into every food product we eat is now available in our closets as well!

The style of Baby Soy clothing is modern with comfy classics your child is bound to get cozy in! A major benefit of soyfiber is actually just that - it will keep your kid cozy! Soybean fiber is known for it's warmth retention properties, making Baby Soy a great choice for cooler temperatures.

The fabric is luxuriously soft, not quite to the point of a bamboo velour but definitely in the realm of a well-worn favorite t-shirt type of softness! The sizing runs large compared to most other brands, especially boutique brands, so I actually would recommend buying the size per your child's actual age (and even at that, they will probably still have room to grow into it).

My only complaint about the Baby Soy brand is that I wish ALL of their products were made from organic soy and organic cotton. If you truly wish to buy only organic, be careful when reading the labeling information because only part of their collection is comprised of organic cotton. I'm looking forward to the possibility of reviewing their toddler clothing so I can comment further on durability on a toddler!
